About Me
As the mother of two boys who are growing far too quickly, I know how important it is to document all those little moments that seem to fade away. Just as those moments fade, sometimes so do the memories. I know that when I'm older, I want to remember things like gardening with my boys, playing at the park, splashing in the water, and the easily forgettable daily living in our home like cooking meals or bed time routines. That’s why lifestyle photography is my favorite style. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good posed family or newborn photo but there’s something I love more about a shot of kids playing at the playground with their parents or a from-behind-shot of our boys walking side-by-side down the sidewalk together. I particularly enjoy getting those perfect detail shots of tiny fingers and tiny toes, and tiny eye lashes. I took thousands of these shots of my boys when they were little (who am I kidding, I still photograph them like I’m their own little paparazzi). I also love shots of my (then) 3 year old’s hands as he grows, showing his transition to childhood where I can tell he’s no longer a toddler but not quite anything else. All those little details we don’t want to forget? I want to help capture those for you!
I’ve done some really fun shoots like milk baths (which are always amazing!) and snowy winter maternity photos and subsequent welcome home baby photos. I LOVE shooting playground adventures and documenting camping, making s’mores, and cook-outs. I also love to create fun and imaginative edits of scenes like kids being chased by a giant T-Rex or giant butterflies, or playing in a field with unicorns, or a even shot of our babies looking out the window at Santa and his reindeer at Christmastime.
I have an ever growing list of photoshoots I’d love to do. If you have an idea, we can likely make it happen!
In addition to photography, I’m also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and practice at a local outpatient clinic, and I teach Psychology and Sociology at a local Community College. Sometimes that type of schedule can feel… heavy. Photography lets me play. So while I’m providing you with documentation of your life, you’re providing me a creative outlet.
Symbiosis.
Lotus and Lace
The lotus flower being a symbol of rebirth and revival is a great analogy of the human condition (and it’s also somewhat reflective of my photography journey). It's interesting how each night the lotus seemingly disappears into literal mud and each day it reemerges unstained. It grows roots that stretch far down into the mud so the flower can rise high above it. Without the mud, there is no Lotus. The plant is also tough enough that when it goes to seed it can germinate sometimes centuries later. Yet, it’s delicate and vulnerable and its petals are easily marred. Never toughening to match its environment. Lace, to me, represents history and heritage, hard work and family, traditions and romancing the ordinary. I want my photos to show how truly beautiful this life is through documenting the ‘Lotus and Lace’ of our existence.
I welcome you to join me on my journey and I look forward to helping to document yours!
